It’s HARD Being A Man: Growing Up
Sadly, a lot of men in the world have grown up in a fatherless home. A home where the mother had to play both the mother and father role in their lives. They did not receive the blueprint on how to be a man and what it takes. They had to learn it on their own. Some men still do not know and now are suffering as a grown adult. Domestic abuse, incarceration are just a few problems men face due to the lack of leadership from a responsible father figure. It all takes a toll on a young man growing up. He has no one to lean on when in trouble. He has no one to talk to about any of the issues he is facing. Sometimes the mother is not in the picture either. A lot of common reasons are working 2 or 3 jobs to provide, substance abuse, killed, which has forced them to have to be raised by another family member. That was the case in my life. My father died before I was born, and my mother was not present in my life for most of my life. I was raised by my grandparents, and without them, I do not know where I would be today. My grandfather was my father figure. Even though our relationship was rocky, I wouldn’t trade it for the world because it has helped me become the man I am today. He would let his pride get in the way with a lot of things. Would not give anyone credit for something they have done, considered himself always right and was very inconsiderate. A lot of arguments, disagreements, actions that I regret on my end, and many hurtful things said.
I can answer all of this took a toll on me. Hurt my esteem and confidence, made me angry and bitter and more. No one deserves this. Men, we have to stay in the fight. We must put our pride to the side and focus on helping and building each other up. We cannot leave when the going gets tough. We are leaders in the household. Our young boys NEED us. It is our responsibility to lead them down the right path. This world is not made for us black men to succeed, but we have to prepare them. They did not ask to be bought into this world. Men, its time to step up!
